to the [?] the Judge holding court for the 4th Judicial district court for the State of Louisiana Parish of Iberville

Pierre Gassie in answer to the petition against him exhibited before this [home/hon.] court by Jean Gassie Ballon that he denies all and [singular] allegations in said petition contained except those hereafter expressed, that this defendent is the son of Jean Gassie Ballon and since his blindness this defendent kept him in his own house and provided him with every thing his [said] father was in want of and this according to the means of your defendent, that Jean Gassies being old and blind became excessively unbearing and unsupportable so as to cause the greatest outrages on this defendent's wife and family and [while] your defendent denies of having even turned his [said] father out of his doors that far from it, before this defendent suffered his [said] father should leave this defendent's house did everything in his power to come to an amicable agreement [in understanding said father] about giving [him/his] a room by him to your defendent's land but every thing every [was frotition] was defeated by Jean Gassie who said that he could not remain in this country and other [remarks] --- This defendent further says that his [said] father is not destitute of every means of subsistence that Jean Gassie

[PAGE 2] has in the city of Barsac in France some very [fine/fixed] property enough to afford him the means of [Jelestiling] --- and further says that this [defendent] is not the only child of [said] Jean Gassies Ballon, that he has in France two sisters and a brother in whom are married and very well off and could grant him some assistance if he was in want of it --- and further says that this defendent is a man of family and possessed of very little property and his property is [free and] as he [offered/afford] [variety] [Terisure] enough to the support of his own family this defendent [in] [wife prays] to be [something] discussed with his [lot] and for general relief.
